About Liv Hansen

I trained as a painter, receiving my BFA from Cornell, and although I continue to paint I've found another creative outlet - designing and making cakes. Even though I have been assisting my mom, making her buttercream roses since I was ten, I didn't start experimenting with icing and chocolate until she opened up the Riviera Bakehouse in Westchester, NY, in 1994, and we started our collaboration. The cakes, cookies, and cupcakes we make at the Bakehouse represent a melding of two sensibilities: my mom's passion for baking unforgettably delicious desserts and my own desire to create whimsical and delightful treats for the eye. My approach to decorating is not fastidious. My designs are carefree and whimsical and rarely do I get bogged down with concerns for perfection, rather I delight in the process and take a step back from each cake to see how all of the chaos comes together to create edible beauty.

About Kaye Hansen

In 1988 I opened my first bakery, the Runcible Spoon, in Nyack, NY. It was the best risk I ever took, and it paid off. "The Spoon" had a loyal customer following that grew over the years. But in 1994, wanting a change, I sold the business and with my husband, Peter, purchased The Riviera Bakehouse - an Ardsley, NY staple of over 40 years. My daughter Liv joined me in this new venture, claiming the decorating room as her own. For the last 5 years running, Westchester Magazine voted The Riviera Bakehouse "Best of Westchester". Among others, we make sandwiches and soups, lasagna and burritos, cookies and tarts, stock cakes and specialty cakes, chocolates and jams, breads and flatbreads...Stop in next time you are in the area!
