About Liv Hansen
I trained as a painter, receiving my BFA from Cornell University, and although I continue to paint I've found another creative outlet - designing and making cakes. Even though I have been assisting my mom, making her buttercream roses since I was ten, I didn't start experimenting with icing and chocolate until she opened up the Riviera Bakehouse in Westchester, NY, in 1994, and we started our collaboration. The cakes, cookies, and cupcakes we make at the Bakehouse represent a melding of two sensibilities: my mom's passion for baking unforgettably delicious desserts and my own desire to create whimsical and delightful treats for the eye. My approach to decorating is not fastidious. My designs are carefree and whimsical and rarely do I get bogged down with concerns for perfection, rather I delight in the process and take a step back from each cake to see how all of the chaos comes together to create edible beauty.
